realme Unveils Watch 3 With Bigger Display And Bluetooth Calling

Strangely enough, its battery life is only half of its predecessor, despite featuring a larger capacity.

realme has launched its latest smartwatch, the Watch 3, in India. The device is, of course, the successor to last year’s Watch 2 and comes with new features as well as some confusing downgrades.

The Watch 3 is equipped with a much larger 1.8-inch square LCD display with a peak brightness of 500 nits, which the brand claims makes content viewable even under direct sunlight. The display is encased in a metallic frame and the edges are curved for a more comfortable experience.

The biggest new feature that realme is touting for the smartwatch is the Bluetooth calling that is powered by a Dual-Mode Bluetooth Chip. If having calls on loudspeaker is your thing, the watch has a built-in amplifier for its speakers and it also has AI noise cancellation so the person on the other side can hear your voice better.

When it comes to fitness, the realme Watch 3 boasts over 110 sports modes to track your exercise progress, although it still lacks built-in GPS. It also has sensors for heart rate monitoring, tracking your blood oxygen saturation levels, as well as sleep and stress tracking. It is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, but realme says it can’t be used while swimming.

The Watch 3 claims to have a battery life of only seven days, while its predecessor had a 12-day battery life with a smaller battery. Even the Watch 2 Pro, which has built-in GPS and only a slightly bigger battery powering it, has a battery life twice as long as the newer wearable. While it does have a bigger display, this alone does not seem to explain the huge difference in the battery performance.

The realme Watch 3 only comes in black and grey options, with over 100 watch faces for customisation. The smartwatch will go on sale in India on 2 August for Rs3,499 (~RM195). The company has not yet announced availability and pricing for other markets.
