OPPO has yet again introduced a new smartphone to its A series line-up in Malaysia with the OPPO A77 5G. Interestingly, the new handset shares the same name as a previous model from the company that was released all the way back in 2017 but, obviously, packs newer and improved hardware as well as 5G connectivity.

The new OPPO A77 5G comes with a flat 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch, 720 x 1612 pixel resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dual SIM support, plastic frame and back, water resistance rating of IPX4, stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Handling the phone’s software is the brand’s own ColorOS 12.1 operating system, which is based on Android 12.

Unlike the earlier Snapdragon 680-equipped A76 that was released locally earlier this year, the newer model packs a MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset with 5G connectivity and a built-in Mali-G57 MC2 graphics accelerator. This is paired together with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. Further, the latter can be expanded via a microSD card and also be used to virtually expand the OPPO A77 5G’s RAM count up to an additional 5GB via the onboard RAM expansion feature. Besides that, it also features NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3 support.

Meanwhile, powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery, which is pretty much the industry standard nowadays for most entry-level and mid-range smartphones in the market. The new Galaxy A77 5G supports 33W of fast charging via USB-C, which OPPO claims is able to top up over 50% of the battery’s capacity in just 30 minutes.

On the imaging side of things, found on the phone’s back is a dual camera setup consisting of a 48MP f/1.7 primary shooter and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. Housed within the display’s waterdrop notch, on the other hand, is an 8MP selfie camera. Both front and rear cameras are capable of recording up to 1080p resolution videos at 30 frames per second.

The OPPO A77 5G is available now in Malaysia, and is retailing at RM 1,199 via the brand’s official online store and its official stores on Lazada and Shopee. For colour options, it is offered in Ocean Blue and Midnight Black. And in conjunction with the phone’s local launch and the 6.6 sale, OPPO is currently offering the new A77 5G at a special discounted price of RM 999 exclusively via its official Lazada store for a limited time from 6 to 8 June 2022.
