OPPO A96 Launches In Malaysia For RM1,299; Pre-Orders Now Open

It is the second OPPO A series smartphone this year powered by the Snapdragon 680 chipset.

The OPPO A96, the brand’s latest mid-range smartphone model that was unveiled last week, has officially been launched in Malaysia today. Priced at RM 1,299, those interested may pre-order the device starting today until 22 April 2022 via OPPO’s physical and online stores, its official stores on Shopee and Lazada, and authorised retailers nationwide.

To recap, the new OPPO A96 features a 6.59-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2412 pixel resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, and 90 Hz refresh rate. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Android 11 via the brand’s ColorOS platform, and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Additionally, the phone is also dust and water resistant, with ratings of IP5X and IPX4 respectively.

On the inside, the device is equipped with a 4G-enabled Snapdragon 680 chipset, paired together with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, which can be expanded further via microSD. The specs sheet in the phone’s product page on OPPO Malaysia’s website also lists a 8GB + 128GB configuration, but this option is not available for purchase at this time. Meanwhile, powering it is a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging via USB-C.

For photography, found on the back of the OPPO A96 is a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor, while housed within the display’s punch-hole cutout is a 16MP selfie camera. As for videos, both the rear and front-facing cameras are capable of recording up to 1080p footage at 30 fps. For the Malaysian market, the device is offered in Pearl Pink and Starry Black colour options.

In conjunction with the A96’s launch, OPPO Malaysia is also offering customers with different rewards depending on the platforms use to pre-order the new OPPO A96, provided that stocks last. Those booking via the brand’s official store are entitled to receive a power bank and umbrella, Touch ‘n Go Card (TnG) or KFC voucher worth RM20, and a 50% discount for purchasing a OPPO Watch Free, OPPO Band or Enco Air2 together with the new phone.

Meanwhile, customers pre-ordering through OPPO’s e-Commerce channels are entitled to all of the above (sans the TnG Card or KFC voucher), as well as a RM100 rebate from banks, RM50 voucher for the brand’s online store or Shopee Wallet, RM5 TnG reload pin, a motion sensor light, and a sim card. Lastly, a complimentary gift box which consists of a power bank and umbrella awaits those purchasing the OPPO A96 via authorised dealers.
