Shopee is looking to expand its list of services to also include food delivery soon in Malaysia. The new service, known as ShopeeFood, will be similar to the likes of GrabFood and Foodpanda, and is planned to first debut in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

As revealed by its recent update on social media, the platform is currently organising a recruitment drive for potential delivery partners for its new service. According to the post, applicants must be a Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above with a valid blue identity card, possess a motorcycle license that is rated P or above, owns a smartphone that supports iOS 10, Android 4.4 or better, must not have a criminal record with PDRM, and is not suspended or banned on Shopee’s platform.

Since the recruitment for delivery partners had only just begun, it might take a while longer before we get to see ShopeeFood’s local launch. It’s also worth noting that Shopee’s food delivery service had originally made its first debut in Indonesia earlier this year. Based on its version of the service, ShopeeFood will be a standalone app that functions similarly to competitors such as GrabFood, Foodpanda, and airasia food.

Through the mobile application, users are able to order meals from various participating vendors and have it delivered to them within minutes. What sets it apart from competitors is the ability to allow customers to pay for their meals by utilising the platform’s ShopeePay eWallet, which is convenient for those who are regulars to Shopee and its ecosystem.

Whether Malaysia’s version will mirror its Indonesian counterpart remains to be seen. That being said, it is not known when the platform is planning to debut ShopeeFood locally but, as mentioned earlier, it is confirmed that its operations will first commence in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor areas when the time comes. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing more regarding this new service from Shopee soon enough.
