Smartphones equipped with large camera sensors were thought to be impossible until the introduction of Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright HMX in 2019. This enabled phones such as its own Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Xiaomi Mi 11 to capture images up to 108MP in resolution. Now, it is said that the Korean tech company may be introducing an even larger sensor soon.
According to renowned leakster Ice Universe, Samsung is planning to introduce “many innovative” ISOCELL sensors in 2021. One of which could replace its 108MP Bright HMX sensors for flagship smartphones by offering a whopping 200MP in capture resolution.
However, that is as much that was revealed by the industry insider. At this time, it is uncertain on how many ISOCELL sensors that Samsung is planning to introduce this year, and the same can be said about their expected date of release.

While Ice Universe does have a good track record when it comes to providing accurate information regarding the company’s products, we would still advise readers to take this leak with a grain of salt. As for the 200MP sensor and considering it to be for high-end devices, it may take some time until Samsung is ready to unveil it within this year – if this rumour is to be believed.
On a related note, Samsung is rumoured to be developing a 600MP sensor as well. Its existence was seemingly confirmed by the leakster back in December last year, who claimed to have obtained an official presentation slide from the Samsung Investors Forum 2020 event.
