Qualcomm recently made several announcements for its latest technologies and features. Among those announcements was the semiconductor maker’s expansion of its 5G technology over to its Snapdragon 4-Series mobile platform.
To be precise, Qualcomm says that it will only be expanding its 5G technology out to its Snapdragon 4-Series mobile platform next year. By making 5G accessible to its entry-level mobile platforms, Qualcomm hopes to provide the connectivity to more than 3.5 billion smartphone users in the future. To date, Qualcomm’s 5G technology is already available on its Snapdragon 8-Series, 7-Series, and 6-Series platforms.
It also shouldn’t come as a surprise that Qualcomm has already garnered support for its 5G expansion from several brands, including Motorola, OPPO, and Xiaomi, to name a few. In any case and as mentioned earlier, don’t expect to see the new 5G-capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 4-series mobile platforms to show until next year; Qualcomm is roughly estimating that it’ll only be commercially available on entry-level smartphones sometime in the first quarter of 2021.
