In light of the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in Wuhan, China, it’s only natural that many online shoppers are fearful of the virus will be transmitted through their orders from China. Shopee is assuring its consumers that that is not the case, and that all its parcel and goods that originate from the country are disinfected.

As per a post on its official Twitter account, the online retailer says that all parcels coming in from China are “uniformly disinfected” by the airlines. And are only delivered after it has passed local customs and quarantine.

Additionally, Shopee announced that it was taking greater steps to combat the virus, including disinfecting its transit warehouse in China on a daily basis, checking the body temperature of its employees before entering said warehouse, and making it mandatory for all employees to wear masks as well as sanitise their hands before touching packages.

The Coronovirus is often referred to as the Wuhan virus, after the place city in China where it originates from. Signs of the virus first emerged in a patient at the beginning of December 2019. 23 days later, China notified the World Health Organisation (WHO) about the disease. At the time of writing, SCMP reports a total of 7875 cases globally, with Malaysia having eigh confirmed cases, and no fatalities.
