Marvel TV is Developing Completely Separate Disney+ Series From Marvel Studios

For the longest time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe run by Marvel Studios has been completely separate from Marvel Television (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, etc). In other words, they’re not part of the same narrative canon. And while that doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon, both of these separate universes might soon be sharing the same campsite.

Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb has assured fans that the death of Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil, Iron Fist, Punisher, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones will not be the end of their small-screen division. Instead, Marvel TV is currently looking to create content for Disney+. In an interview with Deadline, Loeb had this to say:

“Marvel Television will be doing shows with Disney+, we just haven’t announced what we’re going to do there.”

Falcon and The Winter Soldier

However, just as it’s been in the past, the Marvel TV Disney+ series won’t be part of the same canon as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s projects (WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier) that are set to debut on the streaming platform. This is where things might get a little confusing, especially for casual audiences.

In the past, this was less of a problem as fans just had to keep in mind that what we see on platforms such as Netflix do not overlap with the MCU movies we watch in theatres. Now that two alternate Marvel universes will be coexisting on and generating content for the same platform, casual fans might get a little confused as to what’s connected to the MCU and what’s not. Perhaps Disney+ will come up with categories to make the distinction clear.
