Prime Minister Tun Mahathir today has stated that Malaysia will try to make use of Huawei’s technologies as much as possible. The remark was made during a dialogue session at The Nikkei Future of Asia Conference in Tokyo earlier today.
According to the PM, this is due to the fact that big tech companies such as Huawei have research capabilities that are way bigger than the whole Malaysia combined. As for security risk, this is what he has to say:
“Yes, there may be some spying (and whatnot) but what is there to spy in Malaysia? We are an open book. Everybody knows, if any country wants to invade Malaysia, they can walk through, and we will not resist. Because it is a waste of time.”- Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir.
In general, there is a huge sign of confidence that the Malaysian government has for Huawei. All in all, it looks like Huawei’s status in Malaysia still remain intact regardless of the ban that the United States government has imposed on the company.
Just earlier this week, Huawei’s membership in important technologies groups such as SD Association, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, and JEDEC has also been reinstated. Things certainly have looked much better for Huawei right now just as the company filed a court motion to have the ban to be declared unconstitutional.
