Selangor state government has committed a portion of its RM 2.56 billion budget for 2019 to eSports. This was revealed by its Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari during the tabling of 2019 state budget at the Selangor State Assembly earlier today.

According to Amirudin, the state will be providing RM 400,00 of funding for the development and organization of eSports in Selangor. At the same time, Selangor is also aiming to obtain RM 1 million from the federal government with the objective to push the development of eSports into the regional level.

At this moment, Amirudin has yet to provide in-depth details regarding these funding as well as the complete picture of the state’s plan for eSports development in 2019. However, we believe that the long-running Selangor Cyber Games is likely to play a major role in the plan since it was specifically mentioned during the tabling of the 2019 state budget today.

In general, it is yet another boost for eSports in Malaysia who has just received a RM 10 million allocation from the federal government under Belanjawan 2019. Not only that, Razer’s CEO Min-Liang Tan has pledged RM 10 million for eSports in Malaysia next year as well.

That being said, we are quite curious about how and what these funding will be used on. Nevertheless, let’s hope that all the related parties that have access to the multi-million budget would really able to use them for the betterment of the local eSports scene.
