WhatsApp is receiving a significant update that will see greater integration with Facebook and Instagram. The instant messaging app has been updated to allow videos from its two sister social media platforms to be played without leaving the app. Including a picture-in-picture mode so the user can keep scrolling messages.
Facebook and Instagram video links sent within the app will now simply start playing, instead of switching out to their respective apps. Keeping everything operating within WhatsApp. It’s entirely unclear if there are limitations to the feature at the moment; since there have been no announcements about it.
Facebook has been working to get its various apps and services working closer together, and allowing video in WhatsApp is a pretty big step. Especially since it solves the problem of having to switch between apps while trying to have a conversation.
Only iOS users have the update at the moment, and neither Facebook nor WhatsApp has made any announcements about the matter. Which leaves us with no information as to when it will be released for Android.
