Apple Music is about to pass Spotify in the total number of paid subscriber count for the first time – at least in the US.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple Music has increased its paid subscribers growth and will soon pass Spotify’s total in the US. Currently, Apple Music’s growth in paid users has doubled that of Spotify’s. The report claims that Apple Music is increasing by around 5% monthly; while Spotify on the other hand is growing at around 2%. This is a great achievement by Apple whose music streaming platform only launch two years ago.
However, Spotify is still leading ahead of Apple by a huge margin on a global scale. Recently, Spotify reported that its paid subscribers globally was 70 million while Apple Music had accumulated about 36 million paid subscribers.
Aside from buying Shazam to beef up its streaming service, the release of the HomePod might push more users to switch to Apple Music for their music streaming needs. But it’s no guarantee that it will help the Cupertino company catch up with the competition.
