Lenovo has announced that it will no longer released new self-branded smartphones in Malaysia. Moving forward, only Motorola smartphones will be officially released in our market.
According to the FAQ document that was published on Motorola Malaysia’s official Facebook page earlier today, existing Lenovo-branded smartphones that already been launched in Malaysia till 2017 will continue to be sold. Furthermore, warranty and support for these models will continue to be available.
To reflect the changes, Lenovo is going to deactivate its Facebook page and Instagram account in mid-February. The company will also be shutting down Lenovo Mobile Malaysia’s website later this year.
In a way, this will likely allow Lenovo to manage its smartphone business in Malaysia in a more efficient way since the company now only need to focus on just one brand. With that, let’s see how the decision will affect Motorola’s presence in our market.
