Typically, smartphones registered with SIRIM are those that have already been made official, but not these two Sony Xperia smartphones. Not only are they unannounced devices, the fact that they’re already in SIRIM’s database may suggest a quicker rollout to the Malaysian market.
These two devices are the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra and Sony Xperia L2; likely successors to the XA1 Ultra and Xperia L1 respectively. Although their SIRIM certifications didn’t reveal much – beyond the fact that both smartphones support dual-SIM – their specifications were leaked in earlier benchmark tests.
The Xperia XA2 Ultra, for one, is said to come with a 6-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, as well as Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The XA2 Ultra will supposedly feature 21MP rear and 15MP front-facing cameras too.
As for the Xperia L2, details are pretty light on this smartphone, but an earlier leak suggests that this mid-ranger will come with a 1280 x 720 display. It’s also believed to ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box – quite an odd decision for what is likely to be a 2018 smartphone.
More likely than not, these two Sony Xperia smartphones are not Sony’s most exciting offerings for 2018. Hopefully, the Japanese company will shed more light on these phones in the near future.
