Sony has officially announced the local availability of the new a7R III. The full-frame mirrorless camera will be heading to store shelves soon, with a price tag of RM 14,888 for the body only.
The a7R III is the company’s latest mirrorless camera body with a wealth of new features which includes better autofocus performance and longer battery life. It has a massive 42.4MP full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor; which uses a gapless on-chip lens design and AR (anti-reflective) coating on the seal glass to dramatically improve light collection.
Sony’s a7R III has some updated hardware and software compared to its predecessor, including the updated BIONZ X processor that is 1.8 times faster than previous models. ISO performance has also been improved, as it has an impressive range of 100 – 32000 (expandable to ISO 50 – 102400 for still images).
The a7R III can now shoot continuously at 10fps in RAW mode and with autofocus on (it was 5fps in the previous model). It can also do live-view continuous shooting using the LCD screen at 8fps. It comes with a 5-axis optical image stabilisation system that has been fine-tuned to support its high-resolution shooting capacity that when coupled with 15 stops of dynamic range makes it a performing powerhouse.
Video features also receives some boost. It records 4K video across the full width of the sensor so that in Super 35mm mode, it uses the full pixel readout without pixel binning. It down-samples 5K videos to produce high-quality 4K video. It can also record in 120fps for some slow-motion video action on the fly.
First seen on the Sony a9, the Sony a7R III comes with dual SD card slots for expanded storage solution. It uses new Z-series batteries, which promises 2.2 times the battery life of the older W-series. Connectivity is handle by a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 connector for high-speed data transfer from the camera to PCs. WiFi and NFC are also available for mobile device connectivity.
The Sony a7R III will be available from 13 December onwards, with a body-only price of RM 14,888.
