In response to the recent data breach involving Malaysian telcos, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has organized several meetings with them. In fact, the first meeting took place almost immediately after our initial discovery two weeks ago.

According to MCMC’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr Mazlan Ismail, the meetings were held in order to make sure that the telco are in tune with the situation. It is indeed important for them to grasp the situation especially that the Commercial Crime Investigation Department of PDRM is now visiting the telcos as part of its investigation.

With the latest meeting took place last week, the telcos have apparently decided to wait for police to complete its investigations before making any further comments. Interestingly though, the wait might be over soon as the Communications and Multimedia Minister, Salleh Said Keruak has stated that the investigation is almost completed.

The minister further revealed that authorities have apparently able to pinpoint several sources that have potentially leaked the massive amount of data into the wild. Well then, we hope that MCMC and telcos will be able to brief consumers regarding the data breach as soon as possible.
