If you’ve been active on Instagram over the past few days, you might have noticed one little change – once you turn the sound on for one video, it remains turned on for all the other videos you scroll through. Instagram recently confirmed to TechCrunch that this is indeed a new update, so the next time you plan on catching up on the social network platform, you’d better lower your device’s volume before doing so.
Just like Facebook, Instagram autoplay videos, but it’s not too bad since the sound is muted by default. However, with the new update, once you turn the sound on for one video, Instagram will automatically play all other videos with the sound turned on. This is ok if you’re at home, or if you’re alone, but it could be rather rude if you’re out in public, especially if it’s a quiet place.
This can also be rather annoying too, especially since this update is applicable not only to the videos shared by your friends, but also ads. Of course, you can still easily turn the sound off manually, but it’s an extra step that you need to get into the habit of doing. Fortunately, the sound will be muted once again once you exit Instagram, so you don’t have to worry about turning the sound off all the time.
