If you’ve ever searched for a video on Google and opened a wrong video because you didn’t know what it was about exactly, Google’s latest feature might save you the trouble. The company recently announced video previews for its search results to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.
Available on the Google app for Android and Chrome for Android, when video results shows up in the video carousel, Google will give you a 6-second video preview. This would make it faster for you to find what you are looking for whether you’re trying to learn some new dance steps, or you’re at the side of the road looking for video tutorials to find how to change a flat tyre.
If you’re worried about your cellular data, don’t. Google says that previews only play when you are connected to Wi-Fi. To enable video previews on mobile networks, you can opt in by visiting the settings menu within the Google app or Android Chrome. Still, if you wish to opt out of it completely, you may do so too via settings.
Video previews is being rolled out starting today, and will be rolled out more widely next week. Google did not say if they will roll out the feature for Google search on desktop or its iOS apps.
