The KL City Fire and Rescue Department has launched Bomba KL, its first mobile app. It’s a mixture of emergency reporting and public outreach features; providing more than just information about the nearest fire station.
Bomba KL has a database of all fire stations in Kuala Lumpur, including volunteer fire departments. However, true to its name, the app only lists locations that are actually in KL. This leaves out other locations in the great Klang Valley; which somewhat limits its application.
That said, the information is presented in a series of cards reminiscent of modern smartphone design. These cards also contain shortcuts to instantly contact the fire stations, whether it be a direct phone call or reaching out through Facebook. More than a little thought has gone into the development of this app.
In addition to helping people find their closest fire station, the app also supplies other fire department information. This includes events being held in KL, safety tips, and even emergency statistics from each station. With any luck, that last section will be regularly updated with fresh data. It’s rare enough that the public sees this kind of data.
Bomba KL is currently only available on Android through the Google Play Store. There’s no telling it is being ported to iOS.
