Niantic has reopened Pokemon Gyms without warning. That said, there’s no sign of upcoming raids at the moment; possibly to give players time to collect the valuable Raid Passes necessary to participate.
It would look like simply spinning the Pokestop at the top of the gym does not guarantee a Raid Pass, which indicates that it is at least an uncommon drop. This also means several gyms may have to be spun in order to ensure that the pass is obtained.
The redesigned gym comes with a surprising fix. Players are no longer automatically kicked out of battles if their GPS drifts too far away. We’ve tested this feature and can safely say that it’s a very welcome fix for what was a broken system.
Holidays are upon us, and there is no better time for Niantic to implement the new update. Although, relatives may not agree with that statement.
