Sony’s 7 Most Important E3 2017 PlayStation Announcements

Over the past few years, Sony’s E3 press conferences are mainly focused on one thing: games. Not surprisingly, the Japanese company’s E3 2017 PlayStation announcements are more or less the same, and here are some of the most noteworthy ones shown today.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

Horizon Zero Dawn is arguably one of the best games released in 2017, and it’s set to receive a new DLC later this year dubbed The Frozen Wilds. Although not much information have been revealed yet, the expansion’s trailer shows a new region for players to explore – perhaps there will be new machines and upgrades to discover too.

New God of War Trailer and Release Date

God of War for the PlayStation 4 has finally received a release date. Set to arrive sometime in early 2018, Sony also revealed a new trailer for the game. Now no longer based strictly on Greek mythology, the next God of War takes inspiration from Norse mythology – it also introduces Kratos’ son, Atreus.

Monster Hunter: World

Surprise surprise: the Monster Hunter series is returning to the PlayStation platform. Well, not exclusively, but it’s a start. Releasing on the PlayStation 4 as well as the Xbox One in early 2018 – it’s also coming to PC at a later date – Monster Hunter: World is perhaps the most visually impressive entry in the franchise yet. The game appears to feature several new mechanics not seen in other Monster Hunter games too.

Detroit: Become Human

Initially unveiled back in 2015, a new trailer for Detroit: Become Human was shown at Sony’s E3 presentation. Unfortunately, the game still has no release date, but the trailer does give us more details on the premise of the game. Considering the fact that this is a Quantic Dream game, Detroit: Become Human will almost definitely be a very story-driven game – players’ decision will change how the game progresses too.

Days Gone

On the surface, it’s easy to dismiss Days Gone as another zombie survival open-world game, but its new trailer shows quite a number of interesting gameplay elements. In fact, it seems to play a lot like Naughty Dog’s highly acclaimed The Last of Us as well as the Uncharted franchise. Sadly, there’s no word yet on when Days Gone will be releasing.

First Look at Spider-Man’s Gameplay

We finally have our first look at how Insomniac’s new Spider-Man game will play. Although quite a number of games based on the well-known Marvel character have been released in the past, this upcoming open-world Spider-Man game may just be the most impressive – and memorable – one yet. Scheduled for release in 2018, Spider-Man is an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4.

Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4

Initially released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005 – it was later remastered for the PlayStation 3 in 2011 – Shadow of the Colossus is getting a proper remake for the PlayStation 4. Releasing sometime in 2018, this particular version of the game looks pretty gorgeous. Hopefully, it will be more optimised than The Last Guardian; both games share the same developer.
