It looks like on top of announcing red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, larger storage iPhone SE, and a new more affordable 9.7” iPad last night, Apple has got a little surprise in store for us Malaysians. It’s hardcover “Designed by Apple in California” book is now available for purchase from the California company’s online store starting from RM949.
Announced in November 2016, Designed by Apple in California is a hardbound book that features 450 photographs of Apple’s products all the way from 1998’s iMac to 2015’s Apple Pencil. The book also documents the materials and techniques used by Apple over the past 20 years.
According to Apple, all the photographs in the book are taken by photographer Andrew Zuckerman. Jony Ive, the Chief Design Officer at Apple, says that the book is meant to be a “gentle gathering” of Apple products the team has designed over the years, and he hopes that it will serve as a “resource for students of all design disciplines”.
So, why is the book so expensive? It is developed over an eight-year period and printed by Apple itself. Available in two sizes, the book is “printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight colour separations and low-ghost ink”.
Designed by Apple in California is available in two sizes – 260mm x 324mm, and 330mm x 413mm. The smaller costs RM949, while the larger one is priced at RM1,399. You can get it from Apple Malaysia’s online store now and have it shipped for free within one business day.
