Apple recently announced a brand new product, and no, it’s not another gadget. It’s a hardbound book featuring 450 photographs of Apple’s products all the way from 1998’s iMac to 2015’s Apple Pencil. Dedicated to the memory of Steve Jobs, the book also documents the materials and techniques used by Apple over the past 20 years.
Titled “Designed by Apple in California”, the photographs are all taken by photographer Andrew Zuckerman. According to Jony Ive, the Chief Designer Officer at Apple, the book is meant to be a “gentle gathering” of Apple products the team has designed over the year, and he hopes that it will serve as a “resource for students of all design disciplines”.
“Designed by Apple in California” was developed over an eight-year period, and is published by Apple itself. It is available in two sizes and “printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight colour separations and low-ghost ink”. The smaller version (25.91cm x 32.39cm) retails at US$199 (about RM864), while the larger one (33cm x 40.77cm) retails at US$299 (about RM1,298).
