Report: Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 will Feature Quick Charge 4.0 with 28W Charging

Think that the current Quick Charge technology on your smartphone isn’t fast enough? According to rumours, the Snapdragon 830 processor could come with Quick Charge 4.0 that supports much faster charging speeds of up to 28W. For comparison’s sake, Quick Charge 3.0 supports up to 18W, Huawei’s Super Charge is at 22.5W and Oppo’s VOOC is at 20W.

According to Fudzilla, the new charger could support all the way to 5V/4.7A~5.6A, 9V/4A or similar configurations. It will use INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage), an algorithm that enables optimum power transfer while maximising efficiency.

Sadly though, Fudzilla did not specify just how fast Quick Charge 4.0 would power up your smartphone’s battery. However, since Quick Charge 3.0 can charge from 0% to 80% in about 35 minutes, expect something even faster; Quick Charge 3.0 is 38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0.

Fudzilla says that phones supporting Quick Charge 4.0 are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2017. As always, take the rumour with a pinch of salt, and wait for Qualcomm to make the official announcement.
