Often see a product on Instagram that you would like to get your hands on, but hate having to search high and low for the item? Instagram is currently working on a new shopping tag to make it a whole lot easier for you to find and buy the products you see on its platform.
In an announcement post, Instagram says that they are testing out “a way for our community to learn more about the items they view within an Instagram post”. The update will bring new “tap to view” icon on selected products that will list out the name and price of the items. When you tap on an item you like, it will bring you to a new page complete with description of the product so you can find out more about it without having to leave the Instagram app.
You can’t shop in Instagram though, if you would like to buy the product, simply tap on it and Instagram will redirect you to the product’s website whereby you can purchase the item. This update will give users “valuable steps along their shopping journey before they make a purchase.”
The update is currently being rolled out, and will initially be available for iOS devices in the U.S., with 20 US-based retail brands like Kate Spade, JackThreads and Warby Parker. This is definitely a very useful tool for consumers as well as retailers, but we can’t say the same for your bank account.
