When the Sony Xperia X was initially launched in Malaysia, its high asking price of RM2,499 raised more than a few eyebrows considering its mid-range specifications. Now, it appears Sony Malaysia has reduced the price of the Xperia X, although some would argue it is still a hefty price tag.

While browsing through Sony Malaysia’s online store, we noticed that the Xperia X is now going for RM2,199, which is RM300 less than its original asking price. This price drop affects all four colours of the Xperia X as well: Rose Gold, Lime Gold, Graphite Black, and White.

As far as specifications go, the Xperia X is the highest-end offering in the Xperia X lineup for our market, seeing how the Xperia X Performance will not be launched here – this was confirmed by Sony Malaysia a couple of months ago. The Xperia X has a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a fingerprint sensor, and a modest 2,620mAh battery. The device also has a 23MP rear camera and a 13MP front-facing shooter.

Chances are, Sony Malaysia’s decision to cut the retail price of the Xperia X is in anticipation of the Sony Xperia XZ’s arrival, which is set to be launched on our shores tomorrow. It’ll be interesting to see how much the XZ will go for in light of the Xperia X’s price revision.
