As promised, Flash which is the spinoff brand from Alcatel by TCL Communication has unveiled its latest smartphone – the new Flash Plus 2 – just moments ago. True to its promise, the new device does indeed feature a metal physique although it comes in the form of a metal back cover rather than being carved from a full solid metal block as per many of metal-based smartphones out there.

Built with a 5.5-inch full HD (1,920 x 1080) display, the Flash Plus 2 is equipped with a 1.8GHz MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor. Consumers will be able to obtain it with 2GB of RAM which also features 16GB of internal storage or another variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage.

The Flash Plus 2 is also equipped with 13-megapixels OVI13853 sensor from Omnivision on its rear camera together with a 5-elements f/2.0 lens, PDAF system, and dual-color RealTone LED flash. As for the phone’s front-facing fixed-focus camera, Flash has chosen to implement a 5-megapixels sensor and a wide-angle f/2.2 lens into it alongside an LED flash.

Keeping up with the current trend, the new Flash Plus 2 also comes with a fingerprint scanner which was integrated directly into its home button. According to Flash, the scanner able to detect user’s fingerprint and unlock the phone within 0.5 second. It also can be used to secure personal contents in Flash Plus including pictures, documents, files, and apps.

Flash Plus 2 also features NXP9890 audio amplifier which apparently allows its speaker to have louder output while at the same time, an AKM4375 DAC provides enhancements for its headphones output. Not to forget, the Flash Plus 2 is also equipped with a 3,000 mAh battery that can be charged from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes with the help of a TI BQ25896 quick-charging chip that was equipped into it.

To be made available in Luna Silver and Venue Gold colorways, the general price for the device has been set at USD 160 (about RM 643) for the 2GB RAM model and USD 190 (about RM 765) for the 3GB variant. Since the Malaysian launch event for Flash Plus 2 will take place on 24 May 2016, we expect that the local pricing will be made known at the said event.
