Garmin Malaysia has launched two new products under the VIRB brand. Unlike the original VIRB and VIRB Elite action cameras, the VIRB X and XE feature a totally new design and holds several new features up its sleeve. These 12MP VIRB cameras can pair up to ten devices simultaneously, and can be brought underwater for up to 50 metres without any additional casing or equipment.

Both models have mostly the same features built-in. Being Garmin, the VIRB X and XE are fitted with GPS functionality to allow for the measuring of altitude, speed, as well as distance. There is also an accelerometer built in and capable of calculating G-force. Connectivity wise, the VIRB action cameras have wi-fi onboard with support for the Wireless ANT+ standard. It also features a Bluetooth receiver and OBD data to track useful information.

The main difference between the two models is that the Garmin VIRB X supports a maximum 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second while the VIRB XE can record at 3K resolutions and is catered more for professionals at it has further tuning, adjustment and advanced settings. Also, the burst mode on the VIRB X captures 10 pictures a second while the VIRB XE is capable of capturing 30 pictures a second.

In addition, these cameras boast a recording time of two hours but the XE model should have a shorter recording time if it’s constantly recording in 3K resolution.

This allows remote viewing, capturing as well as changing of settings. The Garmin Virb X and Virb XE are now available at Flash Gadgets outlets, and they will retail for RM1,399 and RM1,699 respectively.
