AORUS X5 Hands On 05

It was first unveiled at CES 2015 but as weird as this might sounds, this gaming laptop somehow has yet to make its way into the market. Nevertheless, AORUS – the specialized premium gaming laptop arm of GIGABYTE – still claims that AORUS X5 as the most powerful 15-inch gaming laptop in the world.

Even though AORUS didn’t revealed much about the laptop when it was announced CES, we do realized that some changes have been done to X5’s specifications. For example, its 15.6-inch display panel has been switched from IGZO 4K to IPS 3K which might be lower resolution but still quite high.

We were not informed of the reason behind the switch but then again, X5 will be released into the market with NVIDIA G-Sync technology – something that was only launched earlier this week. Additionally, customers can also choose to have AVerMedia CM311B M.2 capture card inside their AORUS X5 that apparently allows customers to record and stream their gameplay at better framerate as compared to software solution.

Not only that, X5’s final specification also includes the new 2.7 GHz 5th generation Intel Core i7-5700HQ quad-core processor with Intel Hyper-Threading technology. In general, the only major component that still remained in the laptop from its initial announcement at CES is the dual GeForce GTX 965M in SLI mode with 8GB GDDR5 memory.

At Computex 2015, AORUS also has revealed another major aspect of the laptop which is its 8GB DDR3L 1866 RAM that comes as standard and can be further upgraded to a total of 32GB through the laptop’s four RAM slots. The 2.5kg X5 is also built with three M.2 slots and one SATA port for 2.5-inch storage drive.

As per other models in AORUS gaming notebook line-up, X5 also features five hotkeys on the left side of its backlit keyboard which allow access up to 25 active individual macro settings. With a thickness of 22.9mm, it was also constructed from aluminium and still features a glass-based touchpad but we noticed that there’s a grip strip on its click buttons – something that is not present on other AORUS gaming notebooks and quite a thoughtful inclusion.

At this moment, AORUS has yet to lock down the release date and pricing of X5 for our market but nevertheless, the company is indeed working to release the high performance 15-inch gaming notebook into Malaysia very soon. We’ll keep you updated when the time comes.
