Good news to frequent users of Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Facebook recently updated both apps, bringing new features like video calls for Messenger, and new filters and emoji hashtags for Instagram.
First up, for those who make video calls frequently on their mobile phones, Facebook Messenger for iOS and Android now allows you to do so. The feature is not new of course, video call has already been on Facebook Messenger on the web, but this update finally brings it to mobile. Video calling on Facebook Messenger app supports cross platform so even if you’re on iOS and your friend is on Android, you will still be able to call each other.
Sadly though, video calling in Facebook Messenger app is only available in a limited number of countries. Malaysia is not in the list, but Facebook says that they will be rolling out to other regions over the coming months.
As for Instagram, say hello to three new filters. Thanks to the overwhelming excitement from last December when the company released five new filters, the company has decided to bring in new ones, and will introduce additional filters more frequently in the future. The new filters include Lark, Reyes and Juno.
Lark will pump up the blue and greens in your pictures while desaturating reds, bringing landscapes to life. Reyes will give a dusty and vintage look to your moments, while Juno aims to bring a more vibrant glow of people by tinting cool tones green, making warm tones pop and whites glow.
Finally, the latest Instagram update also allows you to use emoji in your hashtags. We use emojis everyday in our conversations and now, you can even use them in hashtags so everyone can understand you regardless of language or background. You can add emoji hashtags to your Instagram post nows, or search for emojis on the Explore page.
The latest Instagram update is available immediately on both iOS and Android so check out the App Store and Play Store.
