Garena has just announced a new e-Sports Structure for Singapore and Malaysia 2015. This new system brings about more tournaments, larger prize pools, as well as an increased chance for players to compete and turn professional.

Garena will be splitting up both the e-Sports structure of Singapore and Malaysia, each having its own timeline to focus on developing new talents in each country. This is a change from the current system of lumping both Malaysia and Singapore teams into a single league. Teams will fight their way up the new structure, and eventually make their way to the Legends Cyber Arena to earn themselves a spot in the company’s very own Garena Premier League (GPL) 2016.

Teams start their journey in the League of Legends e-Sports Structure by joining the Novice Cup in a local participating cybercafe. Top two teams from the Novice Cup will qualify to compete in the Semi-Pro Cup and the top two teams from there will then make their way to The Legends Circuit (TLC) Promotional Series.

The TLC Promotional Series is where eight qualifying teams from the Semi-Pro Cup will play to qualify for a spot in the teams’ respective TLC region. This two-day event is where teams will play a series of both online and offline matches to earn their spot at the LCA. Only be six teams will make their way to the finalised TLC MY and TLC SG, joining the top two teams from the previous TLC series.

Top three teams from each TLC that perform well will then proceed to join the Legends Cyber Arena (LCA), which is an invitation-only online gauntlet. The winning team will then advance to join the Garena Premier League (GPL) in 2016.

The prize pool for the TLC series is expected to be larger than its previous series. For this year, the TLC prize pool for Malaysia is RM100,000 and SGD35,000 for Singapore’s TLC series prize pool.

The new e-Sports Structure devised by Garena does make the whole e-Sports industry more organised. Its purpose is also to develop and nurture new and upcoming talents in the e-Sports industry. The company does have it all planned out, now all that’s left is the execution part – which has been proven tricky to pull off.
