At next month’s CES 2015, LG will be unveiling a new 4K LCD TV with quantum dot technology. This technology is said to be superior to conventional LCD TVs by offering a wider colour palette and improved colour saturation, much like what an OLED TV offers.
LG’s implementation of quantum dot technology involves adding a film of quantum dots in front of the LCD backlight, which the company claims will dramatically improve colour reproduction rate and overall brightness. This improvement is achieved by utilising nano crystals that range in size from 2 to 10 nanometres.
Depending on the size of the crystals, each of them will emit different colours. LG also mentioned that the technology involved in its new TV will not contain any cadmium or other toxic heavy metals that is common in the production of quantum dot TV.
The unveiling later this month will not simply be a demo of LG’s technological prowess; the company is planning to implement this new technology to its TV in 2015. LG believes that this will further establish itself as the leading player of the industry.”
CES 2015 will take place on the 6th to 9th of January 2015. During the event, LG should be able to tell us more about its new TV’s price and availability.
