Oppo R5 Used as Knife, Hammer, and Then Run Over by a Car

No, you did not read the title wrongly. Did we also mention that it was Oppo’s very own doing? To show just how tough the Oppo R5 really is, it was used to cut open a watermelon, crack a walnut, hammer a nail, and of course, smash an Apple with a bite taken out of it. To further prove its point, Oppo decided to run the R5 over with a car as well.

Surprisingly, the Oppo R5 survived all of the ordeals without a scratch. Of course, seeing as how this is a video by Oppo itself, it has probably done some editing here and there coupled with clever use of angles. Whatever the case may be, Oppo does make the R5 look mighty sturdy.

The Vivo X5 Max may have taken the R5’s “slimmest smartphone in the world” title away, but Oppo is now focusing on the build quality of its still very thin phone. One question still remains though: can an actual retail unit survive the same kind of punishment?

As a matter of fact, a YouTuber from Vietnam decided to put that to the test.

In the video, the Oppo R5 was used to smash through a block of ice. As impressive as this may be, there’s no telling if it was actually a retail unit – or if the whole video was legitimate to begin with.

It’s probably a wise thing to not do this to your own Oppo R5. If you’re interested to get the phone, StoreKini currently has it on pre-order with stocks to arrive on the 20th of December 2014. While you’re at it, check out our hands on of the R5 as well.
