The Huawei Mate 7 that was announced back in IFA 2014 has finally landed in Malaysia. To be available starting on 14 November 2014, the Huawei Mate 7 features a 6” FHD screen, a powerful octa-core chipset, fingerprint scanner and a whopping 4100mAh battery, which are all built into a beautiful metal body measuring at only 7.9mm thin.

“The arrival of the Mate 7 a little after a month of its international launch is yet another indication of our commitment to Malaysia. As work and play both converge on to handheld devices, Mate 7 is well-timed as an excellent companion on many fronts, be it a large screen size, fingerprint security, a powerful processor with eight cores and excellent battery life to keep the experience going from work to play and beyond.” – Gary Xu, Country Director, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies Malaysia.

The Mate 7 is powered by the Chinese company’s very own Kirin 925 processor, which is made up of four large A16 1.8GHz and four small A7 1.3GHz cores. The cores will be activated depending on user’s needs, which means that it has better battery management that can save up to 50% battery life. In addition to that, it has either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and has 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage on board.

Another feature that stands out on the Mate 7 is the fingerprint sensor that works just by touching on it. Unlike what Samsung has on the Galaxy S5 and what HTC has on the One Max, all you need to do is touch on the fingerprint sensor located at the back of the device to unlock your phone, make payments and such. The Mate 7 can recognise up to 5 different fingers.

Other specs include 6” Full HD display, Cat 6 LTE connectivity, 13MP rear camera (Sony 4th generation BSI sensor with f/2.0 aperture), 5MP front camera with panoramic selfie mode, a large 4100mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.4 out of the box with Huawei’s latest EMUI 3.0.

The Huawei Mate 7 will be available in Malaysia starting from 14 November 2014, and wil be available in two different variants:

  • Standard version (2GB RAM and 16GB ROM) – RM1,799, available in silver or black
  • Premium version (3GB RAM and 32GB ROM) – RM1,999, available in gold color
