So, the ASUS Republic of Gamers division went all gun blazing at Computex 2014 in Taipei earlier today and unleashed plenty of products for gamers to get their hands on soon. Among them, there is only one ROG gaming laptop though which comes in the form of this brand new ASUS ROG GX500. The company touted it as the world’s slimmest 15-inch gaming notebook and it is not hard to see why ASUS is bold enough to make such claim.
At 2.2kg, the new ASUS ROG GX500 gaming laptop is only 19mm thin. According to ASUS, the laptop will come with an Intel Core i7 processor together with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M as its discrete GPU. Storage-wise, users will have plenty of solid state drives options as listed on the spec sheet below:
Not enough with that, ASUS has also decided to equip ROG GX500 with a 4K 3840 x 2160 display that will come readily calibrated from the factory. The display also apparently is able to provide 100% of the NTSC colour gamut – the first laptop in the world to be able to do so, claimed ASUS.
True enough, the laptop is indeed really slim and feels really light for its size. It is a stunner too, thanks to the laptop’s polished metal exterior and backlit keyboard. I’ve one beef with it though: while I’m not sure in which stage of pre-production that this particular demo unit came from but I can say that the polished exterior is quite a fingerprint magnet as you can see from a number of pictures that are included in this post.
With global availability is said to start sometime in September or October, ASUS has yet to provide us with the pricing details for ROG GX500 gaming notebook. Then again, don’t expect it to be cheap…
