After being rumoured for far too long, the Android-based Nokia X is finally official. The device which uses the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) brew of the operating system, it comes in three different flavours: Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL.

Built with 4-inch 800 x 480 IPS display, the Nokia X and Nokia X+ are powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor. Comes standard with 4GB of eMMC internal storage and supports up to 32GB MicroSD card, both of them do carry different amount of RAM though with 512MB for Nokia X while Nokia X+ is packed with 768MB.

Both devices are also equipped with 1500mAh battery. In terms of photography, both Nokia X and Nokia X+ feature a rather simple 3-megapixels fixed focus camera on its rear and doesn’t come with any front-facing camera.

Meanwhile, the Nokia XL is the biggest device in the family. Apart from its 5-inch 800 x 480 IPS display, Nokia XL also comes with 5-megapixels autofocus camera and a LED flash as well as a 2-megapixels front camera. The device does come with a slightly bigger battery than Nokia X/X+ at 2000mAH but the processor, RAM and internal storage are identical to Nokia X+.

As mentioned in many rumours prior to today’s unveiling, plenty of elements within the Nokia X operating system are indeed taken from Nokia Asha platform and Windows Phone. This include Asha’s Fastlane feature and swipe-based navigation as well as Windows Phone’s resizeable tiles.

Since it is built from AOSP, the operating system for Nokia X devices doesn’t feature Google Play. Instead, users are able to obtain apps through the official Nokia Store or several other app stores such as Yandex and SlideME. Not to forget, users are also able to directly side load apps into Nokia X devices.

Despite that, plenty of popular apps have been lined for Nokia X devices. This include BlackBerry Messenger, Skype, Vine, OneDrive, Outlook.com, HERE Maps, HERE Drive, Nokia MixRadio, Facebook, Twitter and many more. All three Nokia X devices also support dual-SIM capability.

Stephen Elop has made it clear during the company’s MWC press conference that the Nokia X is positioned below the Lumia series and acts as a feeder series to Nokia’s Windows Phone devices. The Nokia X is available immediately for EUR 89 (RM 403) while the Nokia X+ and Nokia XL will be released sometime in early Q2 for EUR 99 (RM 449) and EUR 109 (RM 494) respectively…and all three are coming soon to Malaysia.
