CES 2014: Sony Announces Xperia Z1 Compact

SONY DSC

It looks like the rumors were true after all, Sony does indeed have a smaller Xperia Z1 but nope, it will not be called the Z1 mini or Z1f, instead, Sony has named it the Sony Xperia Z1 compact. As seen in the rumors, the Z1 compact features all the goodness of the original Z1 like the same quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, that same amazing 20MP shooter, water and dust-proof design but inside a 4.3” frame and more color options.

What’s different in this 4.3” version of the Xperia Z1 is the display resolution, instead of packing a 1080p display, it comes with a 720p display giving a ppi of 340. A smaller battery capacity of 2300mAh is also inevitable but since the screen is smaller, hopefully it’ll last as long as its bigger brother. Other specs include Android 4.3 out of the box, NFC, 16GB of expandable storage and will be available in black, white, lime and hot-pink. Sony isn’t giving any numbers for the pricing though, they only mentioned that the Z1 compact will be available in mid-February so fingers crossed that Malaysia is included in that list.
