Canon Malaysia Raises the Bar in Photography with New EOS and PowerShot Cameras

Canon Malaysia has introduced three new additions to its camera family recently, with each potentially being a game-changer in their segments. With each offering distinct advantages and a host of new features, the new Canon EOS 100D – currently the world’s lightest DSLR – the EOS 700D DSLRs as well as the versatile PowerShot N point-and-shoot camera is definitely worth a closer look for the casual photographer.

Article continues after the jump.

The Canon EOS DSLR line by Canon has always been on the forefront of photographic prowess, and the two new additions are proving to be pretty capable entry-level DSLRs. The EOS 100D weighs a mere 370g, making it the world’s lightest DSLR. Its shrunken dimensions, however, does not mean that the EOS 100D has sacrificed performance for ergonomics. Powered by the DIGIC 5 image processor, the new EOS 100D sports a low-noise 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor that strikes  delicate balance between high resolution and high sensitivity images. It can also shoot at four frames per second, making it easy to track moving subjects.

Canon’s latest DSLR also sports a 3-inch, Clear View LCD II electrostatic touch panel which allows touch operations for easy navigation through menus and functions. Further, the Multi Shot Noise Reduction feature makes night shots a breeze on the EOS 100D. In this mode, the camera snaps four images in quick succession, and combines the visual data from all four images into one perfectly-composited image that does not exhibit high noise levels usually found on images shot with high ISO.

On the other hand, the new EOS 700D further improves on an old favourite, the EOS 650D. Sporting the same 18MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 imaging processor as the EOS 100D, the EOS 700D produces images that are extremely detailed with wide dynamic range and rich tonal gradation. This DSLR also features a wide ISO range of up to 12800, and can even be expanded to 25600. Burst shooting is also improved, allowing users to snap at 5 frames per second.

In addition, the EOS 700D also sports the powerful 9-point all cross-type autofocus system – only the second DSLR in its class to have this system (with the other being the EOS 650D). And, with the 3-inch Vari-Angle Clear View LCD II touch panel with live-view, the EOS 700D gives users the flexibility to perfectly capture moments with greater control from difficult angles or in crowded areas (we should know – this is our go-to camera for press events). The touch panel also has support for tap-to-shoot, further adding to the flexibility of the EOS 700D.

Both the EOS 100D and EOS 700D is powered by the Hybrid CMOS AF II system, and uses the new EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. There is also a Movie Servo AF function, which tracks the subjects in view and keeps them in focus as they move to or away from the camera. This, on top of the built-in stereo microphones, make the EOS 700D powerful video recording devices when you need it.

Finally, there is the highly-pocketable and agile shooter, the PowerShot N point-and-shoot. Powered by a 12.1MP CMOS sensor with 8x optical zoom, the new Canon PowerShot N also sports a DIGIC 5 image processor and an ISO range of up to 6400. At the back, there is is a 2.8-inch tilt-up LCD touch panel for easy previews when shooting selfies. Further adding to this is the new dual shutter buttons at the top and bottom of the zoom-enabled lens ring.

If those features say anything about the new Powershot N camera, it is that this is one capable social camera. The Hybrid Auto mode on the PowerShot N automatically records a four-second HD video before capturing a photo, where the Smart Auto and Intelligent Stabilize technologies then dissect the video to determine the best settings to capture the proceeding photo. These four-second videos are later also merged into one video for a cool “behind the scenes” story.

Of course, for such a social device, connectivity is key to making it even more powerful. The PowerShot N sports a one-touch WiFi button that allows users to instantly share their photos on Facebook and YouTube or even with other wireless devices via the Canon CameraWindow App (available for both iOS and Android). Interestingly, the PowerShot N can even be charged via USB, just like a smartphone or tablet.

The new Canon EOS 100D, EOS 700D and PowerShot N cameras are now available throughout Malaysia with the following retail prices:

  • EOS 100D Kit EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM – RM2299
  • EOS 700D Body Only – RM2199
  • EOS 700D Kit EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM – RM2699
  • EOS 700D Kit EFS 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM – RM3399
  • PowerShot N – RM949
