A set of instructions appearing online appears to instruct users on how to unlock their next generation Xbox One and allow it to run Xbox 360 games. However, following this set of instructions only leads to the console to brick itself. The apparent hack comes from a set of options in the Xbox console which supposedly turns on the developer mode. From there, unsuspecting users are told that this will allow their consoles to become backward compatible.
Instead, the change of settings risks bricking the system. Something that is the exactly opposite of allowing you to play more games.
Reports have it that the prank originates from 4chan, and it wouldn’t be too difficult to believe that. After all, they were the ones who came up with the idea that iOS7 makes iPhones waterproof. Another prank that left gullible users without a phone.
