The world suffered a great tragedy when Lego Universe closed its doors in early 2012. That injustice has been remedied now by Funcom, who have announced a new Lego MMO. This new game is based on the popular Minifigures line and is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2014.
If the trailer is anything to go by, the game will be similar to other Lego games which are based around puzzle solving and messing around with the plastic bricks. The developers also mention that there will be something about collecting more minifigures. Do I really want to collect add virtual figures to my physical collection? Do I have a choice in the matter?
With any luck, Lego’s access to other properties will see the greatest crossover game ever made. Especially in the light of the upcoming Lego Movie.
Funcom is responsible for other a host of other MMOs, and are no strangers to keeping their games running. Both The Secret World and Anarchy Online aren’t exactly the top games in the market, but they do have a loyal following and constant player base. With any luck, this will be enough to keep Lego Minifigures Online going for a very long time.
In the mean time, check out the reveal trailer.
