Originally launched during EMA 2012 in Italy last year, Boon Siew Honda have recently announced the availability of the brand new Honda CB 500 series here in Malaysia. The series consisted of three models with each of them are designed with different concept in mind: the supersport CBR500R, the naked CB500F and the adventure crossover CB500X.
Each of Honda CB 500 bikes are built using a common platform which features diamond-shaped steel frame and 17-inch radial tires. They are also powered by the same 8-valve liquid-cooled twin-cylinder 500cc (exact displacement is listed at 471cc) DOHC engine with programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) system which produced a maximum output of 35kW at 8500rpm and maximum torque of 43Nm at 7000rpm.
Together with 6-speed transmission, all Honda CB 500 sports bikes are also equipped with single 320mm wavy brake disc, 2-pot brake caliper and 41mm telescopic forks on the front together with single 240mm wavy brake disc, 1-pot brake caliper and Pro-Link suspension with 9-stage preload-adjuster at the back. Furthermore, the bikes also come standard with Honda Intelligent Security System as their anti-theft measure.
How about their differences? Fellow riders should be able to tell them apart just by looking at their physical designs alone but there are indeed several significant differences between the trio. For example, the CB500X has a 17.3 liter fuel tank while CBR500R and CB500F’s fuel capacity are slightly lower at 15.7 liter. Additionally, CB500X also has the highest ground clearance among them at 170mm compared to CBR500R’s 140mm and 155mm for CB500F.
All three Honda CB 500 sports bikes are available from all Honda Impian Shop immediately with a starting price tag of RM 28,288 while the ABS version starts from RM 31,388 onwards. For the full price list and more photos of these new machines from Honda, check them out right aft the jump.
