The Intel Atom-powered Samsung ATIV Smart PC.
As per what we have mentioned previously, the arrival of Windows 8 into the market has led to the development of so many devices to support the new operating system. Among these devices is the new ATIV Smart PC series from the Korean electronics giant, Samsung.
The series is essentially available in two different families – one being the standard ATIV Smart PC which is powered by the new Intel Atom “Clover Trail” Z2760 processor and another one is the ATIV Smart PC Pro which utilizes the third generation Intel Core i5 “Ivy Bridge” processor. Even though they might looked identical at a glance and even come together with S Pen (made by Wacom) digitizer, both versions are actually worlds apart.

For example, both of them spotted the same 11.6-inch multi-touch PLS display with the ability to detect up to 10 simultaneous touch points but the Atom-powered ATIV Smart PC has a maximum resolution of 1366×768 while the Core i5-based ATIV Smart PC Pro has higher resolution at 1920×1080. Other than that, the ATIV Smart PC Pro is also equipped with 4GB of RAM while the Atom-powered ATIV Smart PC is stuck with 2GB which is the maximum amount of RAM that the PC’s Intel Atom Z2760 processor can actually support.
In short, the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro has more firepower than the ATIV Smart PC with the exception of rear camera as the Atom-based ATIV Smart PC comes with 8-megapixel camera and flash while the Core i5 ATIV Smart PC Pro is equipped with slightly smaller 5-megapixels camera and without any flash.
Among accessories that Samsung have designed for its ATIV Smart PC series devices are cases, screen protector, VGA adaptor, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. We have no information of their availability and pricing though.
Priced at RM 2,499 for the Atom-powered ATIV Smart PC and RM 3,599 for Core i5-based ATIV Smart PC Pro, both devices are readily available in stores starting from this month onwards. One of the easiest ways to differentiate between a Samsung ATIV Smart PC and a ATIV Smart PC Pro is the sticker that identifies the unit’s processor.
Another way is to look at the camera area whereby a standard ATIV Smart PC is actually equipped with a flash. You will not found it on the Pro version.
In addition to that, the Atom-powered Samsung ATIV Smart PC only comes with USB 2.0 ports due to the processor’s limitation.
Curiously, this unit comes with a micro-SIM slot. The Malaysian retail unit will not come with it though.
