Microsoft Goes on the Offensive with “Meet Your Match” Campaign

Remember when Windows Phone 7 was first released? Microsoft went on a global offensive with its ad campaign called “Smoked by Windows Phone”, where Microsoft Store staff pitted their Windows Phone against customers using other smartphone OSes in a series of challenges to see who can perform it quicker. For the most part, it did raise awareness on the fledgling platform – which is why Microsoft is going at it again for Windows Phone 8.

Back then with “Smoked by Windows Phone”, Microsoft did receive some criticism because the whole point of the challenge was just to see which OS could perform a random task quicker, instead of the OS’ overall usability (let’s not even go to the allegations of highly skewed challenges…and the dreaded moment when a Galaxy Nexus won a challenge, and Microsoft Store staff refused to give the cash voucher for the winner).

Hence, Microsoft has launched the “Meet Your Match” ad campaign for Windows Phone 8. While still in the vein of the “Smoked” campaign from last year, this one does it a lot more subtly, instead highlighting the main features of the platform such as Rooms and Nokia’s imaging prowess on the Lumia 920.

Have a look at the videos yourself, and see if you’ve met your match…in smartphone operating systems, that is.
