For better or worse, NVIDIA has unleashed DLSS 5 into the world, and it’s now the key selling point of its GeForce RTX 50-series cards – if you can find and afford one. It may eventually be available on the older 40-series cards as well, but for now, it remains strictly an NVIDIA thing, at least officially. Modders have been plugging away at making the tech work on AMD hardware, and over time, improving performance as well as the installation process.
Modders have previously made DLSS 5 possible on AMD Radeon GPUs, though at the time, performance left a lot to be desired, and installation meant manually copying and replacing DLL files for each game. In more recent developments, performance for the unofficial ports of the tech has improved by up to about 89% and installation can be handled through a launcher. More specifically, the AMDNR launcher, which lets you install two implementations of DLSS 5 on AMD hardware.

According to TweakTown, one is Kien’s dlss5-on-amd9070xt-porting, and the other is Daniel Blanco’s DLSS-NR-on-AMD. The former is noted to be open-source, while the latter is closed-source. Both come with a few limitations in common, though. To start, because this mod relies on DLL injection, you can only safely use this in single-player titles. Then, because the mod is not perfect, chances are you’ll see visual artefacts, especially when things in your game are in motion.
Of course, all this is assuming you desperately want to have DLSS 5 running in your games despite not having an NVIDIA GPU to begin with. In its current implementation, your mileage may vary as to whether this improves or worsens visual fidelity. There’s always the hope of AMD announcing its own take on the tech, and improving the implementation, but until then, this is probably the next best thing.
