HONOR is set to launch a new smartphone on our shores pretty soon. During the National Day Parade, the company showed off the X9e Pro alongside its HONOR Robotics D1 humanoid robot. The smartphone will serve as the latest addition to the brand’s durability-focused mid-range X9 series.
For now, details on the device remain under wraps, although we now know what it looks like. The handset on display sports a dark purple back panel, so we can expect that to be one of the colour options. Aside from that, the phone seems to retain the familiar look of the X9d, albeit with some tweaks. The camera module in particular appears slightly different, though it retains the circular shape. At a glance, the handset’s silhouette seems unchanged from last year’s model: a flat frame with curved corners.
According to the company, the upcoming model will introduce “comprehensive” enhancements, although it did not elaborate on the specifics. That said, it did confirm that it will continue to focus on the durability aspect.
Perhaps the elephant in the room here is the “Pro” in the name. To date, the brand has only ever released one model for each generation of the X9 range. Now, it seems unlikely that there will be more than one variant this time, but the addition of the “Pro” suggests that considerable upgrades are in the cards. Either way, the name does raise expectations, and whether or not the device will meet them remains to be seen.
Since the brand has not disclosed any of the phone’s specifications, it’s hard to say how the new model will improve on the old one. Seeing as the brand has started teasing it, though, we can expect to learn more about it in the near future. For now, there is no confirmed launch date yet. But given that last year’s model debuted in September, it may not be a long wait until the HONOR X9e Pro arrives on our shores.
