Earlier yesterday, NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 got an unofficial implementation after its DLL file was discovered in NBA 2K27, thanks to modders from the RenoDX community. Now, an RTX Remix modder by the name of Uncle Burrito has taken the implementation a step further: getting it to run on the older RTX 40 Series.
Uncle Burrito reportedly identified the Blackwell-only CUDA binaries that were incompatible with Ada Lovelace and replaced them with binary versions that were. By doing this, they allowed the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to be applicable with the RTX 40 Series.

Uncle Burrito demonstrated DLSS 5 with an RTX 4090, but they say that an RTX 4080 implementation has also been successfully tested. Unsurprisingly, though, performance takes a hit; using Control as a test title, the average frames drop from 135 fps to 82 fps when the Neural Rendering engine is active. Oh, and this is with 4K resolution.
NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 and its Neural Rendering engine is supposed to be exclusive in its use to Blackwell GPUs. On that note, we don’t expect NVIDIA to be making the feature officially available for older generation architectures.

For that matter, Uncle Burrito did note that they aren’t sure if they can get DLSS 5 working on RTX 20 and 30 series cards. Though, we have our doubts.
NVIDIA is expected to release DLSS 5 to the masses later this year and so far, and as mentioned earlier, NBA 2K27 is currently the only title officially confirmed to be using the technology. Funnily enough, while NVIDIA hasn’t provided an exact date, a quick Google search on the game’s release date provides a 4 September launch date.
