In an era when gaming at 60fps is the norm, there’s some less-than-ideal news about Grand Theft Auto VI. It looks like the devs at Rockstar Games are only targeting 30fps for the game as it runs on the PS5. While there is always hope that a boost up to 60fps becomes available at a later date, that possibility remains uncertain for now, according to a recent report.
Push Square cites Brazilian YouTuber Davy Jones as saying so following a recent visit to Rockstar Games’ offices in Edinburgh alongside other influencers. He cites Grand Theft Auto VI lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson as the one providing the 30fps figure, though he did leave the door open for future improvements. That being said, Nelson said he’d need “to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60fps option at launch or later”.

If 60fps was to be an option for Grand Theft Auto VI, chances are it will be at a later date, though to what extent remains uncertain. With less than three months until the game’s release, it seems pretty unlikely that the devs will manage to double the framerate of the game running on PS5 if the initial target was 30fps on all consoles. Though judging from GTA5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, a PC port is likely in the works, and will be released over a year later with 60fps support.
On that note, six-hour Netflix exclusivity for the Grand Theft Auto VI extended look is over, and you can now watch it on YouTube. From the almost 27-minute video, it looks to incorporate mechanics from both GTA5 and RDR2, giving a lot of life to the world with tons of side activities as well as ways the player characters can interact with NPCs.
