This year, Sony expanded its lineup of audio products with the 1000X The Collexion and the recently unveiled Olive Grey edition of the WH-1000XM6. Now, recent rumours suggest that the brand will be launching another pair of headphones, although it won’t be exactly new. Apparently, the company is planning to bring back the WH-1000XM4 in some capacity.
The claim originates from a Bluesky post by serial leakster Roland Quandt. In this post, Quandt asserted that the device will debut as “some kind of lite/neo/eco/whatever version” of the now discontinued headphones. He went on to say that the upcoming product will be called the WH-1000XM4C.
Not long after this post, another prominent leakster, Billbil-kun, revealed more details on the headphones. These include its colour options, launch date, and pricing. According to the tipster, Sony will be offering the device in Platinum Silver, Black, and Lavender.
As for its specifications, they will reportedly be almost identical to the original WH-1000XM4. To recap, the headphones launched in 2020 with a foldable design, 40mm drivers, and the QN1 noise-cancelling processor. So, the new device should come with the same hardware. Beyond that, features like Personalised Spatial Audio and multipoint connectivity are expected to be on board.
That said, there will be one distinction between the two models. The new headphones will allegedly feature a shorter battery life of 34 hours with noise cancellation disabled. In contrast, the original device can last up to 38 hours under the same conditions.
For what it’s worth, the new variant is said to be cheaper, with a GBP219.99 (~RM1,214) price tag. The leak also mentioned the pricing for Europe, which will supposedly be EUR249.99 (~RM1,178). In Malaysia, the WH-1000XM4 originally cost RM1,599. As to when the WH-1000XM4C will make its debut, the leakster claimed that the launch is slated for next month on 7 September 2026.
Of course, these are all leaks at this point, so the veracity of the information remains unconfirmed. As always, it’s best to take rumours with a grain of salt as Sony has yet to confirm or deny the existence of these headphones.
