The Smart brand’s next model for the Malaysian market is the mid-size electric SUV #5, which was first showcased to the public during the Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025). Recently, it was previewed once again locally, with more details on the specifications revealed. As such, the #5 is slated to be available in three variants: Pro, Premium, and Brabus.
In terms of design, the EV SUV adopts an oblong-themed aesthetic, most prominently showcased in the front fascia. A full-width light bar integrates with oblong-shaped Cyberlight matrix LED headlamps and daytime running lights, giving the vehicle a distinctive look.

The SUV has boxy profile, with each variant has subtle styling differences. The Brabus stands out with a sportier front fascia, featuring a lower apron accented by oblong perforations. In contrast, the Pro and Premium share a more refined design, where the lower apron houses three vertical bars positioned behind a silver skid plate with horizontal stripes.
Additionally, Smart has hidden panda-themed Easter eggs on the windscreen, rear window, and side quarter glass panels. Other exterior highlights include frameless doors, a 1.7 square metres panoramic glass roof with a powered sunshade, and an NFC sensor embedded in the right B-pillar for use with a key card or compatible smartphone.
Inside, the #5 offers a one-touch Comfort mode that reclines both driver and front passenger seats for relaxation, complemented by 256 ambient lighting colours. A 13-inch dual display unit dominates the dashboard, resembling a compact television, and is powered by the AMD V2000 chip running Smart OS. It also comes with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster display and a 25.6-inch head-up display with augmented reality.
The SUV supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has access to a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Practicality is also strong, with a 72-litre frunk and up to 1,530 litres of rear cargo space. For entertainment, the cabin offers a Sennheiser-sourced sound system with 20 speakers and Dolby Atmos. Other features include heating and ventilation for the front seats and heating only for the rear seats.
In terms of performance, the Pro variant comes with a 250 kW (340 PS) and 373 Nm of torque electric motor and is rear-wheel drive (RWD). It completes the century sprint in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.
The Premium is also RWD with a 267 kW (363 PS) and 373 Nm motor that allows the car to go from 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. In contrary, the Brabus comes with two motors and has an all-wheel drive setup. It produces 475 kW (646 PS) and 710 Nm, completing the century sprint in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h.
The #5 is an electric SUV built on the SEA3/PMA2+ platform, which is also used by the Zeekr 7X. However, only the Pro features a 400V architecture, while the others have an 800V architecture. The Pro is powered by a 76 kWh LFP battery pack with a WLTP range of 465 km. Meanwhile, the Premium and Brabus are powered by a 100 kWh NCM battery pack offering a WLTP range of 590 km and 540 km respectively.
With 400 kW DC charging, both the Premium and Brabus take 15 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% and support 22 kW AC charging. However, the Pro supports a 150 kW DC charger, which charges from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, and supports 11 kW AC charging.
Smart’s local distributor, Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), has yet to reveal the pricing of the Smart #5 is still under wraps. That said, the upcoming EV’s launch date is also undisclosed, though it is expected to likely debut later this year.
