The facelifted MG4 EV has been spotted in showrooms across China ahead of its launch. The new MG4 comes with a redesigned exterior, updated interior, and new battery technology compared to its predecessor, which is currently available in Malaysia.

In terms of exterior, it now features teardrop-shaped headlights compared to the previous angular design, along with an illuminated logo. Additionally, the front fascia is now sleeker than before, replacing the sharp lines of the earlier model. At the rear, it comes with newly designed taillights that now resemble an arrow in a box. This is paired with a full-width LED light bar, giving the entire rear a boxier appearance.

Inside, it has a clean and minimalist cabin that feels more like a living room than a traditional car interior. It is equipped with a large infotainment screen in the centre and a separate screen for the instrument cluster. Powering the system is the MG × Oppo smart cockpit, which runs on a Qualcomm 8155 chip. The hatchback also includes features such as voice controls, smartphone app integration, and gesture-based navigation. Other amenities include leather surfaces, front seats with heating and ventilation, power adjustment, and a panoramic roof.

As for the powertrain, the new MG4 is powered by an electric motor with an output of 120 kW, which is 5 kW less than the base version of the current MG4. The motor is positioned at the rear of the car, making it rear-wheel drive (RWD). According to the automaker, this is the first EV model under the MG brand to feature a semi solid-state battery.

This MG4 EV has a significantly larger battery compared to the current model, coming with a 70 kWh battery pack. This battery offers two CLTC ranges of 437 km and 537 km, suggesting there may be two variants of the facelifted hatchback. The battery is claimed to support fast charging that can replenish the charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Pre-sales for the facelifted MG4 EV are set to begin on 5 August, with its official debut expected in early September in China. As for the current MG4 EV, it is available locally in four variants: RM103,999 (Standard), RM128,999 (LUX), RM148,999 (Lux Extended Range), and RM158,999 (XPOWER).
